The innovative technology design of this interactive multimedia PDQ proposed here is intendedto take full advantage of the future expendability of the National Information Infrastructure throughdelivery of the multimedia on the NREN. At the same time this model design will provide a cross-platfo-rm utility for the delivery of the PDQ on a variety of computer platforms. This multiplatform utility willalso provide a mechanism for inclusion of local and regional information on breast cancer treatment,prevention and support in order to best meet the information demands of consumers and clinicians. Themodel presents a unique and robust combination of metadatabase architecture graphical user interfacedesign, expert medical consultation and an innovative object oriented programming language. The modelwill have further extensibility in application for other NIH and NCI databases of national and localsignificance.
