This project concerns the design of MEDFLOR, a database for ethnobotanical information to be used in selecting plants with potential uses in medicine. Datamaps specific to the botanical, medical, and anthropological aspects of the data will be constructed. Some structural features and software from the natural products database NAPRALERT will be incorporated, making the two databases compatible. An electronic data entry system will be developed to increase the efficiency of data entry. The structure of the database will be third-form relational because of its ability to store and retrieve information efficiently while providing for the most complex of search patterns.National Cancer Institute (NCI)
