Scientic will demonstrate a proof-of-concept architecture for an integrated Nuclear Event Detector (NED) that would be deployable in system on chip applications. Scientic, Inc. proposes to demonstrate this novel approach to integrate nuclear event detector features into system on chip applications during Phase I through modeling and simulation, with a demonstration characterization vehicle produced in Phase II.
Benefit: It is highly desirable to incorporate system on chip architectures in modern DOD systems. The utilization of this architecture realizes benefits currently found only in commercial systems in which several separate functions are encompassed in single or very few chip sets. By utilizing cutting edge microelectronics technology and implementing system on chip architectures, DOD systems have the potential to leap forward in performance capabilities over traditional multi-chip designs. For applications operating in ionizing radiation environments, the need for a compact, integrated NED can provide operational functionality without the need for additional hybrid NED devices to perform this function. Through development of this concept in Phase I and the demonstration in Phase II, Scientic will work to transition our proposed invention as a viable 3rd party IP available to DOD and its contractors.
