Vision Point Systems, Inc. (VPS) proposes the development of an Intelligent Corrosion Simulation and Design Tool that can provide expert analysis and guidance to ship and aircraft systems designers. The computer system will be designed to accept input from subject matter experts that can then be utilized by the design personnel to evaluate the corrosion performance of the materials selected in the intended environment. The system will be comprised of a back end database, an SME front end, a drawing import tool, a corrosion performance analysis engine, and a simulated performance output module. There are three functional requirements for the tool that will be addressed during Phase I of the project: Develop a concept for an Intelligent Corrosion Simulation and Design Tool and design and develop the associated database (DB) that can store and retrieve material properties and behavior equations for specific corrosion modes and environmental conditions based on user defined search parameters. Design and develop a software application with the ability to gather key geometry and materials information from a component CAD drawing. 3. Design and develop a software application that will allow the designation of a “Service Zone” or “Service Environment” by selection of an area on a ship or aircraft system drawing or diagram, or by selection of corrosion severity parameters. The selected designation will be utilized by the application to extract and aggregate information from the database, user input, and the imported CAD file that is required to simulate corrosion service models.
