DHPC Technologies (DHPC) will develop the design, architecture and composition of a portable Laser Target and Analysis Board, (LTAB) and all associated support equipment (data collection, remote power, communications, system enclosure, etc.). The LTAB, along with the support equipment, will comprise the Portable Integrated Laser Optical Test System, PILOTS. DHPCs approach is to combine and significantly enhance the Navys two legacy measurement subsystems, into a single, safe, and easily deployable trailered system. PILOTS will provide an innovated method for laser measurement, while providing operator comfort, advanced processing and advanced communications for remote operation. Initial focus will be on measuring IRCMs ability to achieve Power on Dome and collecting a Direct Measurement of its laser beam at relevant ranges (1-10 km). PILOTS will be designed to measure the laser parameters (irradiance, beam shape, pointing accuracy, etc.) at any remote outdoor real world range environment (semi rugged). Additionally, PILOTS will include a Laser Characterization Cart (LCC), whose purpose is to quantify the laser radiation characteristics as it exits the systems pointer/tracker assembly, PILOTS will be designed in an open, modular fashion to address growth paths to allow testing of other types of laser-based systems across the spectra in the future.
Benefit: A Portable Integrated Laser Optical Test System, PILOTS, with its Laser Target and Analysis Board, LTAB, and all associated equipment, will provide the Navy, Government, and commercial laser-based system designers the opportunity to test and evaluate real-world laser systems, without the necessity to extrapolate performance predictions based on limited laboratory measurements.
