We propose a small expendable neutralizer (XN) UUV capable of autonomously neutralizing proud and volume mines. XN will be compatible with legacy launchers and readily deployed from submerged, surface or air platforms. It will be capable of long range submerged deployment, as well as persistent station keeping. It will employ low cost/power guidance and control technology, yet home precisely. Propulsion, sensing and guidance and control will take up minimal volume, preserving payload space for the neutralizer payload

Phase II

Contract Number: N00024-07-C-4108
Start Date: 12/26/2006    Completed: 12/21/2010
Phase II year
2007
Phase II Amount
$750,000
Phase II effort will produce and evaluate the Ranger XN vehicle for mine neutralization in shallow and very shallow water. The vehicle is designed for optimized payload delivery, station keeping, and ease of use by NSCT1 operators. The modular design of the vehicle permits attachment of various payloads and sensor packages for efficient storage and for ease of field preparation. The vehicle provides extended transit capabilities and the ability to hold station for extended periods adjacent to a mine. The design of the vehicle also enables fit-up for other related or unrelated missions with minimal additional on-board storage requirements, as well as making available for academic and commercial users a highly affordable, easily configured UUV for a wide range of applications.
