This document covers a proposal by Contamination Studies Laboratories in response to SBIR Topic N95-177. The proposal covers the background Phase 1 research necessary to develop an environmentally acceptable conformal coating stripper, and a prototype conformal coating rework station to'apply such a stripper in a precise and controlled manner. These rework stations are intended for military and commercial rework and repair facilities, but can be modified for other applications containing special cleaning challenges. The research will address the four major conformal coating types (3 formulations each) and examine four possible chemistries for coating removal. Substrates will include industry standard test boards as well as actual functional product. Testing will examine corrosion and materials compatibility issues.
