Babet Engineering proposes to investigate the following five (5) possible methods of fume control or recovery for ocean-going vessels: 1. Vapor Balancing - Fumes would be transported back to the tank from which the fuel was pumped. 2. Absorption - i. A chilled lean oil (above 32 degrees F) system would be used to strip the recoverable hydrocarbons from the vapor stream. ii. A low temperature absorption system, utilizing the fuel being loaded as the absorption fluid would strip the recoverable hydro- carbons from thervapor stream. 3. Adsorption - A dual bed adsorption system utilizing activated charcoal, molecular sieves, or zeolites would be utilized. 4. Cryogenic Condensing - Liquid nitrogen or an ultra low temperature mechanical refrigeration system would be used to condense the rec- overable hydrocarbons from the fumes. Each of the above control/recovery methods would be designed and evaluated to determine the optimum method which could be utilized after considering capital costs, reliability, ease of operation and operating costs (including routine maintenance costs)
