An important need for the US Navy and other military services is the effective field repair of electronic printed circuit boards which have been sealed with conformal coatings. Repair of the ekKWk circuit boards by replacing components first requires removal of the conformal coating without damaging the other components on the board. Tetra Corporation proposes to adapt our proven coatings removal technology to remove the elecboi 11C circuit bowd conformal coatings. The system will give Om operator finger tip control of the removal process so that just the coating can be removed In a controlled process without damaging nearby components or the PC board itself. The process is operator safe and environmentally friendly. The overall program objective is to develop a simple, compact, reliable system for safety removing conformal coatings from ekK'Aronic craft boards in Phases I and 11 and provide this system to the US Navy, other military services, and industry on a commercial basis in Phase III. Phase I with the Phase I Option is to measure process rates in the labors", design the compact coatings removal system, and fabricate and test the system In the laboratory. Phase 11 is to fabricate and deliver at least 6 units to the US Navy for extensive field evaluation.
