Topic N94-023 of DoD SBIR Solicitation 94.1 calls for advanced research and development of virtual reality (VR) technology and techniques for terminally-guided weapons such as SLAM/WALLEYE. The purpose of this Phase I SBIR effort is to demonstrate feasibility of developing low-cost VR interfaces to existing part-task trainers (PTTs) to enhance terminally-guided weapon training. Phase I objectives will identify VR techniques for converting PTT tutorial and simulation modules from 2-D to 3-D virtual space using off-the-shelf hardware and with an innovative and cost-effective PTT design that utilizes VR hardware to eliminate much of the packaging and shipboard handling problems associated with current PTTs.
