The Satellite Downlink Hybrid Antenna to Receive Environmental Sensing Data ("SHARES") combines a novel multi-path resistent adaptive antenna with a very high dynamic range receiver and advanced digital signal processing to permit simultaneous reception of the Automatic Picture Transmission signal and the TIROS Information Package data stream. The combination of the multi-path resistant adaptivity and efficient demodulation minimizes the required antenna gain, allowing the antenna system to have a very small topside footprint. The Phase I effort will show the technical feasibility of the basic concept through a combination of design, breadboarding, analysis, and simulation.
