Proposal to assess state-of-the-art, remote operated DC disconnect switch device for isolating battery voltage during emergency or maintenance conditions. First switch prototype is constructed based on the design provided under Phase I. Prototype is then load tested and evaluated. A second single-pole device is then designed incorporating technical information gained from first prototype test and general mechanical improvements from new specifications. Second device is tested and data evaluated. Third step in program is to fully incorporated all technical parameters into a final design that is suitable for installation in Seawolf battery compartment. Major areas of design concentration include explosion proofing and water tight packaging, while maintaining a compact device. Provides for an engineering design, basic interface with ship's battery, and Phase II development schedule and cost estimate.
