Gyroscoped exhibit a phenomena known as nutation which is an undesirable motion of the gryo about its spin axis. If left undamped, nutation can render useless a gryo used as the telescope of an infrared (IR) homing missile. One of these is electronic nutation damping. This is an alternate method to mechanical damping which has limitations when applied to modern IR applications. The objective of the project is to develop electronic nutation damping which overcomes these limitations.
