This proposal recommends a design study and evaluation of an integral electric motor/waterjet based on a unique waters et configuration that has demonstrated improved performance compared to conventional waterjet arrangements in the pleasure boat size. It is likely that a similar improvement will be found with larger units suitable for military applications like the AAAV. Access for motor maintenance and replacement is much easier than with conventional configurations. Motors diameter can be larger than conventional configurations which permits use of a shorter motor. The larger diameter, shorter motor can deliver the required power at higher torque and lower speed which simplifies the required gear train to drive the impeller and reduce gear noise and resulting noise signature.
