The objective of this project is to show the feasibility of an nsc advisory system. This system will use a set of cooperating expert systems. It will embed the knowledge of the best nsc technicians which will than become the standard for others. An Incremental approach will be used so that the system will be able to grow over time (i.e. can start small and keep adding). An important feature of the system will be its teaching capability. A sample tutoring program will be Included as well as actual cases in order to help train new persons. During this phase i we will work closely with Washington, D.C. and nsc on the east coast.

A program will be written to tap into current data banks and to automate the information retrieved. Specifically it will help to categorization item for which a stock number does not exist, call attention to inconsistent or incomplete data concerning an item, and will combine available sources of information to provide a comprehensive report on a data item. The program will be installed at a Navy-specified stock point and inventory control point.
