This paper proposes the development of an innovative data structure that has the ability to capture, store and retrieve information based on its actual content. This is achievable because of a newly developed technique called "xyimaging". Based on mathematical transforms, this technique captures the content of information items in a multi-dimensional, phase-space, image (see paragraph 1.3). This ability is innovative in that existing data structures allow only for the storage and retrieval of data based on the address of that data. The system proposed here will allow users to store information by simply providing data in any format and retrieve it in the same fashion-without knowing the address of the data. With this capability textual and graphical data can be stored and manipulated from individual systems or a broad network of data bases and machines into meaningful information units. Also, by its nature, this technique can provide an extremely "user friendly" and intuitive man-machine interface.
