The strategic planning and creation of test scenarios for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) All Digital System Level Simulations and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) test events is a lengthy and arduous endeavor. In some respects the difficulties and time required are understandable. There are a large number of stakeholders with a wide variety of perspectives, objectives and priorities. However, while a tremendous amount of coordination is required, the practices are also fraught with inefficiencies. The time consuming challenges of requirements-based scenario design will significantly benefit from rigor in the specification and control of common data sets. In addition, capturing the knowledge of subject matter experts to automate manual design processes has the potential to greatly increase effectiveness and quality of Scenario Generation resulting in streamlined creation, redesign and validation of scenarios. To enhance Operational Test (OT) fidelity, increase automation, and shorten the testing process, the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) seeks innovative research efforts to develop scenario generation technologies. STILMAN proposes to conduct novel research to develop a highly automated and composable scenario generation toolset. Currently, in the distributed system of systems Operational Testing enterprise, high impact opportunities exist to apply scenario composition tools, develop a common data repository, and to replace numerous manual processes with automated, machine readable data exchanges between test participants. By integrating STILMANs unique Linguistic Geometry (LG) based technology with a shared data repository, a lightweight front end scenario generation toolset can be developed to increase automation within the test process.Initial research will focus on automated scenario composition and the early simulation of key test conditions to decrease test preparation timelines and enable the test stakeholders to confirm that the analysis goals, system performance models, criteria data, data repositories and inter-system messaging are sufficient to achieve the desired test fidelity. Numerous commercial testing enterprises in the automotive, aviation, and robotics industries could benefit from this design approach and the test tool framework.Approved for Public Release | 18-MDA-9522 (23 Feb 18)
