For the manufacture of long length YBCO superconductors, there is a need for process that will rapidly produce c-axis texture in thick films. During this Phase I, we will investigate a manufacturing process that has the potential to provide rapid formation of c-axis texture on both textured and non textured flexible metal substrates. During the Phase I we will setup the manufacturing process, produce samples, and characterize the samples. During the Phase I we will identify the processing parameters and equipment for scale up in the Phase II effort. The results of this research will enable the development of a process to provide c-axis texture of long length YBCO superconductors on flexible metal substrates. This process will not be dependent on vapor deposition processes which typically have slow deposition rates.
