Inductors are essential components of military and commercial power management and electronic systems. Existing ferrite based inductors have reached a technology plateau that allow only marginal improvements in performance per unit volume. It is anticipated that the future inductor based technologies, such as EMI suppression, would require significantly higher energy density inductors. Fundamental breakthroughs seem essential to meet this need. This program seeks to demonstrate one such breakthrough. The technical approach is to synthesize proprietary nanomagnetic materials and then prepare inductors of unmatched performance. Phase I will seek to systematically establish the proof-of-concept; Phase II will scale up, design, assemble and field test prototype inductors; while Phase III will commercialize the technology.
