Phase I

Contract Number: F29601-94-C-0134
Start Date: 6/2/1994    Completed: 12/3/1994
Phase I year
1994
Phase I Amount
$60,000
This proposed Phase I program focuses on the development of a novel solid electrolyte that is low cost and has the potential of yielding high conductivity for lithium ion.s These novel materials have stable crystal structures and are quite robust up to temperatures of 560 degrees celcius. Objectives of the Phase I program are: (i) synthesize candidate elctrolyte compounds; (ii) fabricate and characterize the thin film separator membranes made from these materials; (iii) Demonstrate improved pulse power performance using these separators for suitable lithium intercalation chemistries. Phase II R&D efforts if funded to scale-up of the synthesis and preparation of these novel materials and electrolyte membranes, fabrication of cells, multicell component development and testing of prototype cells, and multicell stacks.
