The objective of this program is to realize a compound, c3n4 with a beta-si3n4 structure. This compound is originated from a theoretically computed model with a promise of hardness superior to that of diamond, the hardest material existing today. Several publications can be found in the last three years on an attempt to realize this compound; all results show a severe nitrogen deficiency: almost 50% of the intended value. The present proposal is to develop a system consisting of carbon and nitrogen complex. This beam is deflected magnetically and electrically to achieve a mass selective deposition. The resultant material should be an expected stoichiometric compound.
