Out of 50 million tons of fly ash generated each year in theUnited States, only 27% is reused or recycled. The remaining 73% islandfilled which presents potential environmental problems in the future. This projects main objective is to develop a new class of constructionmaterial from the Chemically Activated Fly Ash (CAFA) in conjunction withfine and coarse aggregates, and determine pertinent mechanical andenvironmental properties of the final product. The information in thisinvestigation will provide information needed to create a productionprocess most suitable both technically and economically. Preliminaryresults reveals that is material reaches compressive strength of 6,000psi after 2 hours and an ultimate strength of 13,000 psi after one day.Typically portland cement concrete requires 28 days to reach the samestrength level that CAFA material achieves after 2 hours. Economicanalysis of this material indicated that the cost of this material issignificantly less than comparable strength portland cement material onthe market.
