Autonomous Innovations Inc. (AII) proposes to develop a novel comprehensive monitoring system for motorcycles that will monitor vehicle miles traveled (VMT), as well as a varity of physical measurements, to understand the exposure and factors in the increased numbers of accidents among motorcycles riders. All has extensive experience in developing and integrating sensors and data-logging for a variety of applications. This project intends to use AII's experience to both develop an optimized scheme for VMT monitoring, and a comprehensive sensor suite and data handling network for understanding the growingly complex field of motorcycle incident and accident analysis. Recent advances in sensor technology combined with reduction in cost for these sensors, allow the low cost monitoring of a wide variety of physical factors. These factors may include GPS, acceleration, rotation, temperature, pressure, heart rate, and vehicle performance, among others. AII has demonstrated capabilities in a variety of sensors including vehicle performance monitoring, and data transfer over the cell phone network, to a server with extensive database, analysis, and display capabilities. This project will lead to a solution that integrates the optimal set of sensors and monitoring equipment, with data processing and analysis designed for research and understanding for DOT requirements.
