The goal of this project will be to develop a prototype voice-activated cockpit (VAC) that will allow a pilot operating in marginal VMC to manipulate controls via voice commands and receive voice feedback for verification of settings. In so doing, we strive to create a system where tasks usually accomplished by looking at an item and manually entering data, turning knobs,, or pushing buttons will alternatively be able to be accomplished via voice commands. To accomplish this, we will conduct a study of which GA cockpit functions should and can be voice activated, create a new BNF grammar to accomplish this, and demonstrate the new functionality on a baseline system previously developed for the Joint Strike Fighter.
