RWG Communications, LLC proposes to use a combination of hardware and software to achieve the goal of an interoperable radio. In order to communicate with other agencies across the country, the optimum solution is to have a software driven radio that will be easily programmed and re-programmed to accept different frequencies and modulations. This will allow cost saving for the Coast Guard by using a single piece of hardware and changing the programming which is sorted in various communications chips. The chips are never replaced,m but a new communications group can be created by simply downloading some data onto the existing chip. This also provides time savings which is very crucial in the Coast GuardsÕ operations and mission. The operator can change from one agencyÕs frequency and modulation to another agencyÕs just by loading information stored in memory from a device no larger than a credit card.Anticipated results/potential commercial applicationsThe anticipated results of phase I are different frequency and modulations communicated over a single devicce. The potential commerical application is tremendous. The device can bridge the gap between wireless communications amoungest different counteries who use PCS and cellular jusat for starter
