Silicon photodiodes are used by all x-ray baggage scanners. These systems are, at least partly, limited by the noise performance of the photodetectors. Higher performance photodetectors would allow better image quality, lower dose, or higher inspection speeds. This research will investigate photodiode performance improvements through novel structures.
