Several methods of rapidly screening airline passengers and baggage for explosive devices are proposed. Two of these methods use nonlinear device detection (NLDD) to determine the presence of active or passive semiconductor devices which may be part of an electronic bomb fuze. Another two detect the presence of running oscillators which are likely subsystems of a fuzing device.Anticipated results/potential commerical applications of results:Screening equipment using one or more of the proposed techniques could be employed in airports worldwide to improve the safety of air travel and to thwart terrorist activity.
