An innovative technique is proposed for determining the severity of motor vehicle accidents involving crushing of the vehicle roof. An interactive methodology will be developed which will be built around a model of the vehicle motion during rollover and subsequent impacts. The model will be driven by accident data and user instruction. It will yield estimates of the vehicle angular and translational motion subject to constraints supplied by input. Impulsive forces and force deflection representation of contact surfaces will be implemented to define the effectiveness of the methodology in estimating vehicle motion.
