In this project, the team will develop a new phonological awareness assessment for pre-kindergarten children who are dual-language learners. The prototype app will present children with a series of images of words (e.g., ball) and will ask "Do you know this word?" A prototype algorithm will generate diagnostic results and a dashboard will provide educators with recommendations for practice and instruction in English and Spanish. The project team will conduct a pilot study with 20 children ages 3 to 6 and one educator to test if the prototype functions as planned and is easy to use if children are engaged and are able to follow the rules provided if the educator feels the content is developmentally appropriate and aligns to instructional objectives, and if the educator believes the sample assessment reports and individualized curricular materials are useful and appropriate.
