At OneWorld we are developing a service that will combine user end software, a secure network and feedback-oriented curriculum to provide a kid-friendly, learning-specific interface for global video communication. The software utilizes a detailed, three dimensional globe as a graphic user interface for children to access the network. The network will provide a secure pathway and storage for the children's video and written communication. The curriculum is multi-subject and task oriented, and will be designed to encourage self-directed, cross-cultural collaboration. By uniting current technology with progressive educational theory we will help to expedite the transition from the presently employed static media approach for teaching, into the dynamic construction of real world meanings in the classroom. The idea is to provide a platform that enables children to design and complete their own projects in cooperation with children from other countries. As a result, children will be made more aware of the positive nature of their cultural differences, and more aware of the impact they have as individuals within a global community.Summary of Anticipated Results and Implications:The implications of such innovations are far reaching. For the first time, a generation will be educated about cultural differences through daily interaction with the culture itself, rather than through text based, localized, ethnocentric interpretations. Leaders produced by such a generation will already be equipped with a personal reference point for cross cultural problem solving. The service can generate an income from the following avenues:1.Licensing to schools for a yearly fee.2.Marketing of service specific hardware, includingcameras.3.Marketing of service specific software, includingtranslators, voice recognition etc.
