The Cell Biology Learning Resource (CBLR)will be a multimedia educational resource designed to give the student a better means of learning cell biology through an immersive and interactive environment. Utilizing novel cell visualization technology, the CBLR will enhance the learning experience by facilitating the first-ever exploration of a computer reconstructed human cell and its internal structure. The graphical interface will be tightly integrated with a hypertext-driven textual reference to provide easily accessible information. Teaching of introductory through advanced cell biology will be improved by emphasizing functional and structural relationships in situ. Student exercise swill be included to stimulate critical thought.Summary Of Anticipated Results And Implications:The Phase I effort will result in a computer reconstruction of a human cell which will be ready for incorporation into the CBLR. Visualization concepts will also be tested. Phase II will consist of continued research into new visualization concepts and development of the CBLR graphical user interface and content. If Phases I and II are both successful, the result will be a product that is suitable for distribution on CD-ROM and/or the World Wide Web.
