Mitigation of environmental risks associated with shallow water supply contamination and increased efficiency of oil and gas recovery in unconventional plays are critical components of energy independence. This proposal will develop a novel fiber optic tool design that will enable better characterization of the orientation and dimensions of hydraulic fractures.
