Coal-fired power plants are large stationery sources of CO2, which is a greenhouse gas and a cause of global warming. DOE has stated that CO2 capture and sequestration holds the potential for mitigating global warming, while enabling us to use our vast reserves of coal. This project will develop novel solid sorbents that will be vastly superior to present materials in their efficiency of CO2 absorption and will require significantly lower energy for CO2 capture.

Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by the awardee:
The novel sorbents for CO2 separation and sequestration would help mitigate the effects of global warming, allowing our utility companies to utilize domestic coal reserves
