The DOES Energy Sciences Networks at the Dept. of Energy operate at multi-Gigabit data rates. In this environment, there is a need for advanced intrusion detection systems that can detect attacks against low-speed devices distributed in the protected network. This project will develop Centralized Intrusion Detection Sytems (CIDS) for use in high-speed (10Gb/s) backbone networks. Phase I will prove the feasibility of the concept through detailed architecture design, which will be recommended for CIDS device implementation in Phase II.
Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by the awardee: CIDS devices should lead to a new performance class of intrusion detection devices available for DOE, Defense, Homeland Security, and network service provider applications. Network operators should be able to defend successfully customers networks at network backbone data rates
