Oxygen is a necessary substance for human life and it is also, on the battlefield and in other emergency and medical situations, a life-saving substance. Oxygen for use in medical situations requires high purity and must be without contamination and the availability of a high concentration pure oxygen source is critically important in medical emergencies and on the battlefield. Additionally, at present the delivery of oxygen for use by the military in deployed (field) medical environments presents a huge logistical burden. Therefore, there exists a strong need and market pull to develop a high energy efficiency compact oxygen generator for deployed military facilities and personnel. In this SBIR program, a novel high selectivity, highly efficient and low power consumption oxygen separation technology is proposed. Based on our analysis, our technology has the following advantages: 1) high oxygen purity: 2) low cost; 3) low power consumption; 4) stackable; 5) very low noise; and 6) compact and mobile. Once developed, our technology will deliver a running time up to three times longer when on battery power than the commercial oxygen concentrator, exceeding the requirement of this solicitation.
