For this Phase I SBIR proposal, Vcom3D proposes to design advanced medical moulage that accurately simulates the progression of an injury or pathology by morphing through a series of clinical states to enable learners to confirm the progression of the wound and to determine whether iatrogenic errors or pathologies occurred duing treatment. The physical morphing moulage may be applied to medical manikins, part-task trainers, and standardized patient actors and re-used during multiple simulations. Displaying the tissue properties in a virtual modality will also be explored, for use in AR and with flexible color displays. A functioning prototype of critical design elements will be developed, implemented, and evaluated as part of the Phase I project. We have selected burns and decubitus ulcers and their associated interventions as the focus of the prototype. The prototype will be evaluated by military medical trainers, and results of this evaluation will be used to refine the design for Phase II research and development.
