Typical handheld medical ultrasound array probes are not well suited to point of injury care or attended casualty evacuation vehicles due to their bulky size and the requirement that the device be held in the hand of the medic. Portable ultrasound systems are available that allow for improved mobility, but a truly wearable portable system has not yet been realized. This proposal seeks to develop a portable ultrasound solution featuring a finger-mounted probe-based solution that is both wearable and wireless. The project will focus on refinement of a finger-mounted ultrasound probe, integration of the probe with a commercially available imaging platform, and development of wireless communication techniques to improve the portability and usability of the ultrasound system.
