Luma Systems proposes the development of a novel autofocus and zoom technology for telescopic imaging systems. The proposed technology is designed to address the increasing need in military optical and imaging systems for a rapid autofocus and zoom capability spanning the visible and IR wavelengths from 0.4 μm to 5.5 μm. Applications include riflescopes, spotter scopes, imaging for missiles, UAV-based overhead surveillance, land-based surveillance for unattended sensors/motes, robotics, and laser pointing and designating. Currently, autofocus and zoom are performed by moving bulky lenses mechanically. The proposed technology would satisfy the military need for a rapid autofocus and zoom capability from visible wavelengths to far IR with no moving parts.
