We propose a snapshot mode hyperspectral imager based on the patented micro machine optical element array. This compact device will provide staring hyperspectral imagery without scanning.Operation in the LWIR will permit identification of chemical warfare agents, and toxic industrial chemicals. Its compact size will permit integration into handheld, vehicle borne or drone mounted instruments.

Phase II

Contract Number: W911-SR-20-C-0007
Start Date: 5/1/2020    Completed: 4/30/2021
Phase II year
2020

The research resulted in the development of a new approach to hyperspectral imaging utilizing Compressive Sensing. The newly conceived snapshot spectral imager will provide spectral data in a very compact package. It will be virtually indistinguishable from a standard infrared camera but with the added capability for spectral measurement. The camera will thus deliver chemical species information mapped onto the IR imagery.
