The process of focusing the power of this next-generation technology to fabricate cylinders, which have circuits and patterns on the outside and inside, will open doors to applications of interest to the U.S. Army. The most straightforward example is with emerging missile systems. Using a Direct Write approach, to conformally print the electronics and RF elements, would eliminate dead volume, make it more rugged and allow for novel sensor designs to drive next-generation guidance systems. There is an opportunity to improve every aspect of assembly and integration using an additive manufacturing and direct-write printed electronics approach. This will save time, money, and improve logistics. The same materials and processes used in missiles could be used for other products and even commercial products.
