FRC will develop an integration package for an Automated Blast Mitigation System (ABMS) to be installed on the Oshkosh MRAP-ATV (MATV). A combination of multi-body vehicle dynamics models and detailed nonlinear finite element models will be used to develop a prototype design of the integration system hardware. These preliminary numerical studies will be used to identify the load cases and worst case scenarios that the hardware will need to withstand. Existing and newly generated test data (as required) will be used to support these studies and validate the responses. FRC will also work with a supplier of TRL 6 ABMS who will provide technical support and performance data. Multiple designs will be generated which will be optimized and refined in phase II. This will allow for the investigation of using novel high-strength-per-weight materials such as forged composites. High-fidelity CAD models as well as high-resolution finite element models of the hardware will be created for use in LS-DYNA including material definitions. The models generated in this phase will be setup to accommodate the extremely high-rate loading and shockwaves generated in blast simulations.
