To address the Army need for development of designed-by-reliability zero-maintenance air filtration system for modernization of military air filtration systems for ground vehicles to increase the system service life and reduce operation and support costs, BuckyTech, LLC proposes to develop an Embedded Resonated Screen Air Filtration device, based on a new, highly efficient nano-fiber mesh with embedded resonators, which is built on a substrate of thicker fiber mesh to form an integrated air filtration device. High efficient particle filtration, longer service life, and zero-maintenance are achieved by the self-cleaning nano-fiber mesh. Vibrated by the embedded resonation system at a resonant frequency, the self-cleaning nano-fiber mesh will screen and block particles > 7 microns in the air flow. Keeping the fiber mesh and the substrate from the particle attachment and contamination, the self-cleaning function can increase the new devices service life longer than the existing systems by 65% or greater. In Phase I BuckyTech will demonstrate the feasibility of this innovative device and develop a detailed design for its implementation in the fabrication. In Phase II BuckyTech will conduct a detailed investigation of each production step, implement the innovative device fabrication, and demonstrate a prototype of the self-cleaning air filtration system.
