This proposal outlines a development path which leverages a legacy robot sensor system and evolves it into a completely self-contained sensor surveillance system with laser illumination function designed specifically to covertly penetrate architectural glass and vehicular windows. This system will operate as a standalone entity, requiring only power and a simple mounting surface from its host platform. It includes the laser illuminator, various night vision sensors, wireless links, and a head-mounted display. The sensor package is small enough to be mounted onto robotic platforms such as the Foster-Miller Talon or the iRobot Packbot.
Benefits:This system is unique it its ability to actively illuminate through architectural glass and vehicular windows, day or night. The applications are especially relevant in urban areas, and the system will certainly be of great use in counter-terrorist activities as well as general military operations. Because of the counter-terror application, OASYS expects the system to also be of use in law-enforcement and commercial security markets.
