In order to realize the full commercial possibilities of wavelet technology, it is critical for potential users to be able to explore candidate applications conveniently. Neural Technology, Inc., (NTI) proposes to create a powerful wavelet "toolbox" for Silicon Graphics workstations. This toolbox will enable its users to assess the impact of wavelet-based processing for real-time applications by (1) providing access to wavelet processing alternatives through a graphical user interface, (2) permitting users to interface the toolbox conveniently with their own simulation, modeling or preprocessing tools, and (3) augmenting the Silicon Graphics workstation with a hardware accelerator. During the Phase I effort, NTI will demonstrate the practicality and feasibility of the toolbox by developing a prototype wavelet "toolbox" on a Silicon Graphics workstation. The capabilities of the toolbox will be demonstrated on 1-D acoustic signals and 2-D thermal images.
