A microcomputer controlled (Digital) gun sight is proposed that would eliminate most if not all of the manual operations needed by the current generation of mechanical/optical howitzer sights. This sight would also include a north finder and azimuth orientation sensor which would remove the need for surveying in the gun's reference direction and would maintain the reference direction during firing. A digital data interface would allow for automatic reception of firing commands, and the sight would have the ability to verify correct gun aiming. An enhanced optical element is proposed that can be used to verify the reference direction accuracy over time, perform as a direct fire sight and would possibly perform some functions now performed by the M2 Aiming Circle.
