The objective of this proposed effort is to design a compact infrared zoom lens suitable for use in guided munitions. The continuously variable zoom of the lens offers significant operational performance benefits to weapon systems using switchable FOV optics. Oetc will design a zoom lens that meets the Army requirements by employing aspheric and diffractive surfaces. Significant weight savings and performance enhancement over conventional lenses are anticipated to be realized. The resultant zoom lens design is planned to be the basis for the Phase II effort with concept validation as the principal objective.
