This proposal details an approach to providing mortar munitions with increased effectiveness via use of a dual purpose millimeter wave terminal guidance seeker. The concept seeker uses an active-mode millimeter wave radar sensor to effect target detection and target tracking functions. Additionally, a target designator-cued mode of operation has been conceptualized for engagement of armored vehicles and especially high value targets. In the primary mode of operation, the seeker is an autonomous millimeter wave radar that is capable of carrying out target search, detection, and tracking operations through use of multi-level algorithms coded into the signal processor. In the secondary mode of operation, the seeker is cued by a low probability of intercept millimeter wave illuminator operated by a forward observer.
