This program will develop a ballistic tape and a flexible fiber reinforced composite panel for use in lightweight, flexible modular armors against fragmentation protection. Required number of layers of ballistic materials based on woven and non-woven arramed and polyethylene fabrics will be consolidated in polymeric matrices, and formed into tapes and panels. The critical processing parameters affecting the flexibility of the tapes and panels will be investigated. Phase I work will involve examination of fiber type and denier, fabric style, polymer type and amount, and consolidation parameters to achieve desired level of flexibility and ballistic performance.
