The U.S. Air Force (AF) has a critical need to ensure easy and on-time access to spare parts for mission readiness and a key part of this is ensuring that Readiness Spare Packages (RSPs) can be packed and unpacked rapidly to ensure the requisite Readiness. However, the current approach relies on manual, trial-and-error methods for packing and shipping. This results in a 14-day lead time for RSP preparation, leading to delays in deployment and difficulties in locating specific parts upon delivery. The 14bis Packing Optimization (PACKOPS) system is a novel approach using AI and adapting its Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) product to offer flexibility for various deployment scenarios, from forward units to stationary bases. It will reduce product waste and administrative inefficiencies. 14bis has the experience and expertise to research, adapt and develop this Phase I project to a Phase III and beyond and can tie in maintenance and load planning actions for this 14bis PACKOPS RSP project. The ultimate goal is to provide rapid packing optimization plans, full visibility and enable enforcement actions so that spares are stored and shipped correctly and that maintenance activities are planned and executed.
