Today’s enterprise software environments are extremely unstable, doubtful, complex and vague. However, more organizations are developing software than ever before. Meanwhile, their understanding of who is contributing to that software is becoming increasingly obfuscated due to modern CI/CD practices and remote work. There are many challenges that affect the success of a software project. In many cases, organizations can’t recognize the project goals, purposes, tasks and responsibilities. This lack of clarity exists because software team members can’t relate their individual goals to the goals of other team members. Capturing and categorizing the contributions of different team members is a cornerstone of ensuring team awareness regarding accomplished work. It enables the appropriate evaluation of contributions to team efforts necessary for successful teamwork. Currently, the industry lacks any meaningful mechanism for organizations to look past the software itself, and evaluate the individuals and groups that contribute to the organization’s development organization. Understanding who these contributors are, what software they are contributing to, the impact those contributions have to the organization, and what group(s), organization(s), and company(ies) those developers have relationships with, is becoming more critical than ever, when holistically evaluating software risks.
